Peaky Blinders artist to support Birmingham Children’s Hospital

Exhibition piece to be raffled for charity.

Renowned local artist Jon Jones has produced a new oil painting depicting the notorious Peaky Blinders gang, in support of the Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

The piece, entitled He Who Fights by the Sword, will be sold in a month-long raffle draw launching on Saturday 2nd December during an appearance by Jon at Castle Fine Art in the Mailbox. All proceeds raised during the raffle draw will be donated to the Birmingham Children’s Hospital as well as a contribution made from sales during the event.

Jon has worked meticulously with archived material from the West Midlands Police Museum for his collection depicting the Birmingham- based, but now world famous, Peaky Blinders gang. The auction for the He Who Fights by the Sword original oil painting will run until Saturday 23rd December accompanied by a wider exhibition of Jon’s art. Visitors will also get the chance to view the popular Peaky Blinders bear Jon created for public art trail, The Big Sleuth.

Jon Jones said: “Birmingham Children’s Hospital does great work for families in and around the city, so it’s a privilege to be donating a painting for the raffle. He Who Fights by the Sword is heavily influenced by speeches made by Tom Hardy and Cillian Murphy’s characters in series three of Peaky Blinders. The scenes were so powerful they left me with goose pimples and I just had to immortalise them in my painting.”

Eloise Davidson, corporate fundraising manager at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, said: “We are thrilled that Washington Green Fine Art and Castle Fine Art have chosen to support us with their Peaky Blinders event. At Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, we believe that there is always more we can do for our sick kids and events such as these help raise both awareness and vital funds for the families and children that we treat.

“Money raised from this event will help us with our latest Critical Journeys appeal aiming to raise money that will equip a fleet of four ambulances with the latest life-saving medical equipment. The service makes sure that more than 2,000 new-born, small babies and children requiring intensive care and emergency treatment are transferred to the right place, at the right time and for the right treatment. Thank you so much for thinking of us!”

Danny Wigley, gallery manager at Castle Fine Art, Mailbox – Washington Green’s nationwide network of high street galleries – said: “Peaky Blinders is such a well-loved show, especially here in Birmingham, so it’s no surprise Jon’s work is extremely popular with our clients.

“The meet the artist event is an ideal opportunity to hear first-hand about the stories and inspirations behind each of the works that will be on display in the gallery and, importantly, to support Birmingham Children’s Hospital. The raffle draw will be open throughout December for those that may not be able to make the event but would still like to donate.”
