Top acts at a top venue.
The Hare & Hounds in Kings Heath have announced their programme for September. Highlights include:
Friday 1st September – Jesse Rose b2b Joe Goddard All Night Long
The Legendary Jesse Rose is hanging up his headphones! But before that he’s decided to take some of his very good friends for some final shows in some of the world’s best intimate venues. Jesse will be playing for his first (and last) show at the Hare and Hounds alongside the equally legendary Joe Goddard (Hot Chip/2 Bears). The pair will be playing all night long on one of the city’s best sound systems.
Friday 8th September – Ruts DC
Ruts DC evolved from legendary punk band the Ruts, after the death of singer Malcolm Owen in 1980. The band dissolved in 1983, but reunited in 2007 with American punk icon Henry Rollins on vocals to play a benefit concert for guitarist Paul Fox, who had been diagnosed with cancer. This led to a permanent reformation with Leigh Heggarty replacing Fox alongside original members Segs Jennings and Dave Ruffy in 2008. Since then the band have performed live throughout the world and last year’s Music Must Destroy was voted Album of the Year in Vive Le Rock magazine and elsewhere being hailed as a return to form.
Saturday 9th September – Bentley Rhythm Ace
Bentley Rhythm Ace formed in Birmingham in 1996 when ex-Pop Will Eat Itself bassist Richard March and DJ Michael Stokes discovered a shared love of obscure, oddball and eccentric tunes. Utilising lo-fi cut and paste sampling techniques combined with analogue synths and some wild turntable action their debut EP was picked up by Fatboy Slim’s Brighton-based Skint records and released to widespread acclaim.
Friday 15th September – The Night Owl Presents Geno Washington & The Ram Jam Band
Saturday 16th September – Leftfoot and Jigsaw Music presents Maurice Fulton
Maurice Fulton is one of house music’s true originals, an eccentric ex-pat American (currently living in Melbourne) DJ and producer who never fails to surprise and delight his listeners. Maurice has been round the block in more ways than one, not only did he have a hand in producing Gypsy Woman by Crystal Waters, one of the most successful house tunes of the early ‘90s; he is the darling of both the underground house and leftfield scenes with an enviable back catalogue. A true legend of house music, this evening guarantees to be truly special.
Friday 22nd September – Mike Skinner & Murkage present Tonga
The Tonga Balloon Gang have found a new home and it’s in Kings Heath. Mike always wanted to perform at the Hare & Hounds when he was a boy but you used to have to guarantee that fifty friends were coming and the venue hire worked out quite expensive. With the help of social media Mike now has more than fifty friends so he can play here.
