Architects’ designs revealed for BIMM Institute.
Architects’ images have been revealed for the design of the £4 million brand new state-of-the-art BIMM Birmingham building on Floodgate St, Digbeth, which opens its doors in October 2017.
BIMM, the British & Irish Modern Music Institute, is the largest and leading music education specialist in Europe and boasts many celebrated alumni, including BRIT Award winning artists James Bay, Tom Odell, as well as chart-topping George Ezra, The Kooks and, more recently, BBC Introducing’s Artist of the Year 2016 winner , Izzy Bizu.
Since the start of this year, BIMM Birmingham has been running monthly Open Days at the Custard Factory, Digbeth, and now all prospective students can see for themselves what the college will look like when it is completed.
The architects’ responsible for creating the plans for the new college are BHP Design in Birmingham. Their designs depict modern, stylish and spacious buildings within the BIMM complex, which will transform Birmingham’s Digbeth area. Nick Smith, associate director of BHP Design, says, “We are really excited about the development of the BIMM college in Digbeth as it will really set the tone for the redevelopment of the area and will become a real creative hub in the creative centre of Birmingham. This is reflected in the designs for the development where we have put students at the heart of the design.”
Dara Kilkenny, who takes on the role of Executive Principal for BIMM Birmingham in addition to holding the same role for BIMM Manchester and BIMM Dublin, adds, “It made total sense for BIMM to have a college in the UK’s fastest growing music city. The building development work is progressing to schedule, and we can’t wait to see it all finished.”
BIMM Birmingham will offer BA Honours degree courses in Drums, Bass, Guitar, Vocals, Songwriting, Music Production and Music Business. All BIMM Birmingham degree courses are validated by the University of Sussex, who are in the top 1% of global universities and ranked in the top 20 of UK universities.
BIMM Birmingham is open for applications via UCAS. There will be further announcements made in the coming months. The next BIMM Birmingham Open Day is at the Custard Factory on Saturday 25 March at 11 am (arrive 10 30 am), where anyone interested in applying can find out all about life at BIMM and the courses on offer.
