College students look through Windows into Work

Employment trainers visit Warwickshire college as part of education initiative.

Students at King Edward VI Sixth Form College in Nuneaton were given the chance to take a closer look at a range of professions at a Windows into Work event hosted by independent careers service provider In2Ambition.

Representatives from Midland Group Training Services and 3AAA visited the college and provided insight into what it takes to succeed in engineering, IT, digital marketing, accountancy and business administration. More than fifty pupils met with recruitment officers from each of the organisations, and had the opportunity to speak to 17 year old apprentice Navraj Chadha, who had recently completed a Level 3 apprenticeship in IT.

Rachael Talbot, employability and communities officer at King Edward College, said: “Many of our students are now at the point where they need to make a decision about what comes next in their career journey. Whether that is an apprenticeship or higher education, it was great for students to have the opportunity to ask questions to someone who was in the same position as them and has succeeded in what he set out to achieve.”

Alaina Allen, business engagement coordinator at In2Ambition, added: “It’s always great to see the impact careers events such as this one have on the young people involved. We’ve had one student secure an interview with 3AAA as a direct result of the Windows into Work, and several others have expressed interest in attending the MGTS open day in March.”

The sessions took place as part of the Skills for Employment initiative; a £2.4 million scheme funded by Warwickshire County Council and delivered by In2Ambition, which will see careers advice delivered to 14 schools across Warwickshire.

In Nuneaton specifically, a further two Windows into Work sessions, along with a CV writing masterclass, will take place at King Edward College later in the year. For more information about In2Ambition, or to get involved with an upcoming event, call 01564 332 123 or visit www.in2ambition.com.
