Cole’s to Birmingham

Innovative combo set for Friday night date.

This week’s offering from Birmingham Jazz sees young local band CharCole Collective performing at the Red Lion in the Jewellery Quarter.

In amongst the turbulent demolition, construction and development of England’s second city, this exciting band headed up by Xhosa Cole pays homage to Birmingham’s cultural history so heavily routed in the industrial revolution. This popular and an emerging talent returns to the Birmingham jazz stage to present his take on urban life. Emerging from a city full of industry and enterprise – in buildings of function and art Xhosa creates his own musical landscape.

The group draws influences from Birmingham’s expansive breadth of cultural influences from jazz, English folk melodies, Afro-Caribbean and South Asian rhythms through to present day urban genres. With many of the compositions based on Birmingham’s architecture; past, present and future, the premier of the project celebrates Xhosa’s first twenty years in Birmingham.
