Iconic Pakistani singer remembered at Birmingham event

Tributes paid to victim of air crash.

The inspiring life of pop star turned religious leader Junaid Jamshed has been celebrated by hundreds of supporters at a fundraising reception in his memory.

The televised ceremony on December 25th was seen by a global audience who had followed his career from superstar singer to humanitarian preacher and charity worker.
The family-themed event at the CSN Centre in Sparkbrook, hosted by leading Muslim charity Al-Khair Foundation, drew a huge crowd who paid tribute to a life cut sadly short in a plane crash earlier this month.

52 year old Junaid had been the lead singer with the group Vital Signs before devoting his life to helping others. “Junaid Jamshed was a great humanitarian who was a symbol of service to people, irrespective of their background and affiliations, motivated by his sense of duty towards humanity,” said Imam Qasim Rashid Ahmed, the Founder and Chairman of Al-Khair Foundation.

“Throughout his life, he remained involved with numerous charitable projects and millions of people in need benefited from his services. His passion to help those in need was inspirational and Al-Khair Foundation will take his humanitarian legacy forward. Following the example of Junaid Jamshed, we should play our part in making the world a better and safer place for the underprivileged.”

“Through these events, Al-Khair Foundation aims to pay tribute to the immense dedication with which Junaid Jamshed served humanity in his lifetime. His legacy will have numerous dimensions and his selfless humanitarian work will remain a motivation for many years to come”.

Junaid Jamshed was a partner of Al-Khair Foundation and an active supporter of the charity’s work, raising funds by hosting live appeals and performing at events. He also visited Al-Khair’s humanitarian projects in Tharparkar and other remote areas of Pakistan and remained an implementing partner in numerous projects of the charity.

The event, broadcast live by Al-Khair’s IQRA TV channel, featured his peers, Najam Sheraz and Amjad Hussain, who performed Nasheeds in memory of their departed friend. Renowned UK-based Nasheed artist Omar Esa also performed at the event.

The evening Remembering Junaid Jamshed with Al-Khair Foundation will be repeated in Oldham and Leicester, on December 27 and 29 respectively, so that more supporters can pay tribute to his unique life.

Al-Khair Foundation, which has its headquarters in Croydon, has been committed to global charity since it was founded in 2003. It runs charitable projects in the UK and around the world tackling hunger, poverty and providing disaster relief. Funds from the three memory evenings will go towards water wells in Tharparker, Pakistam, a maternal hospital in Gaza, a paediatric unit in Syria and masajid in Sindh Pakison.
