Coming up at Artrix

Comedy and music for the week and a bit ahead.

UK poetry slam champion Ben Norris will be bringing his hilarious show The Hitchhikers Guide to the Family to Artrix this week. In turns funny and moving, Ben will take you on a poetic and ramshackle road trip that will ask searching questions of identity, the perils of lower-league football and some of the UK’s most notorious service stations.

The Hitchhikers Guide to the Family is at Artrix Studio on Friday 4th November. Tickets (ages 12+) cost £12.00 (£10.00)

Firework night isn’t for everyone and as the lights soften and the mood settles, Sounds of the Glenn Miller will provide a perfect evening of relaxation. The Big Band sound of the 1940s will transport you to a bygone era. With classics such as Moonlight Serenade, In the Mood and Little Brown Jug this is an evening not to be missed.

Nick Ross Orchestra presents Sounds of the Glenn Miller Era at Artrix on Saturday 5th November. Tickets cost £19.50 (£18.50)

Beth Vyse has some guts. Not only did she survive breast cancer but now the former RSC actor is making a name for herself with a comedy show about her battle. Beth, who was diagnosed at just 28, felt it was high time to start talking about her experience rather than keeping it under wraps. The result, As Funny as Cancer, went down a storm at this year’s Edinburgh Festival. The show’s not entirely about the Big C either. Born in Stoke-on-Trent to a family she describes as the Waltons on alcohol, she relates some hilarious tales of hanging out with Nelson Mandela, acting at the RSC and producing two football teams from her womb.

Beth’s show will be at Artrix on 5th November and there will be a collection for Cancer Research UK following her performance in the Studio. Rosie Hamilton, Artrix’s Marketing and Fundraising Officer said “As a charity ourselves we feel it’s important to support other charities, especially since Beth’s show is so close to Breast Cancer Awareness month.”
