Andy Munro talks about Blues’ new owners and the Chinese invasion of local football.
God help all West Midlands football supporters if there`s a China Crisis, now that all our clubs are owned by nationals of the same country. To be honest, to be taken over by an outfit called Trillion Dollar Trophies seems a bit like being bought out by a Chinese Del Boy and the fact that nobody seems to know much about them – other than one is known as the `King of Penny Stocks` – is also more than a trifle disturbing.
The good news is that it now appears that none of the new owners appear to have a police record in the Fu Man Chu category and the fact that one of the main players is an accountant gives a degree of comfort. However, yet again, a Chinese owner can`t resist headlining an investment figure, in this case circa twelve million quid, which by nature of the announcement will have immediately been devalued by about half in terms of player value.
Still, there has to be some tempered optimism – we are doing very well on the pitch with limited resources and some wise but modest investment on a couple of quality defenders may be all we need.
However, the bottom line is that if the latest owners are ìn it to win it`and therefore if, in around two or three seasons, we don`t reach the promised land, the new owners of the club and ground might want their money back. Maybe we`ll be needing that proposed Birmingham Commonwealth Stadium, after all.
