Kings Heath Street Festival details revealed

Food, drink, music and family fun on the agenda.

The team behind Kings Heath Street Festival have revealed more details of the free fun lined up at the annual community event this Sunday 11th September 2016.

The festival will see York Road, Heathfield Road, Silver Street and Kings Heath Village Square come to life for an all-day end-of-summer celebration, including live music, market stalls, street food, children’s entertainment, and much more, from 11am-8pm.

Now in its third year, organisers at Kings Heath Business Improvement District promise that this year’s much-loved event will be even bigger and better than before, with an estimated 8,000 attending last year’s Street Festival and even more expected to join in the celebrations this time around.

As part of the festival expansion, Silver Street and Kings Heath Village Square will be transformed into a dedicated family area, with a whole host of free fun to keep the little ones entertained from 11am-5pm. Amongst the activities, there will be music workshops from Birmingham Rockschool, face-painting, games with Tots Play Birmingham, craft activities with local independent toy store Togademus, as well as a variety of traditional fairground rides, a big wheel, carousel, electric go-karts, and bouncy castles, plus a BBQ and bar on the Square courtesy of local pub The Station.

This year, there will be three stages of live music programmed by local music venues Hare and Hounds, Kitchen Garden Café, and Birmingham Rockschool. Amongst the line-up of local musicians and artists taking to the stage, there will be performances from Major Toms, Dirty Old Folkers, Rhino and the Ranters, Prodigal Scum, Swampmeat Family Band, Jacob Johnson, Young Culture Collective, Ashland, Bostin Brass, Crooked House, and many more, as well as performances from Birmingham Rockschool’s Choir, teachers and students.

As well as this, attendees can enjoy browsing the wide selection of homemade produce, crafts, artwork and artisan products on offer from independent traders from both Kings Heath and wider Birmingham, as well as local charity stores, salons, and BID businesses. The market areas will include stalls from I Had One Of Those, Togademus, Oxfam Bookshop, Brockleby’s Pies, Bournville Bread Basket, Portman Plants, Funny Brummie Pictures, Mirrorstone Crystals, Happy Gut Hut, Johnstans Butchers, Beautiful Elegance, A Natural Undertaking, Milo & Mooms, The Barmy Fox, Moseley & Kings Heath Shed, Working Clasp, and many more.

In addition, some of the finest street food traders in Birmingham will be serving up a street food feast on the day, with dishes from Canoodle, Hungry Penguin Pancake Co, Stuffo, Esme’s Eats, I.Juice, Barebones Pizza, Bournville Waffle Co, Fat Breads Food, Stuffo, and Little Sixty Three, to name a few, with pop up bars from Hare & Hounds, the Station, and Kitchen Garden Café keeping the drinks flowing.

Budding local photographers are also encouraged to bring their cameras along on the day and photograph the community fun as part of the BID’s Capture Kings Heath photography competition.

Kings Heath BID Manager and event organiser, Martin Mullaney, said: “With just days to go until Kings Heath Street Festival, the excitement is really building here at Street Fest HQ!! The festival is a real highlight for us all here in Kings Heath, and is always a great day for the community to come together and celebrate what our town is all about! As we’ve expanded this year’s event to make it even bigger and better, we’re expecting it to be an unmissable day, and of course, everyone is welcome to come and join in the fun! Let’s just keep our fingers crossed for dry weather!”

Kings Heath Street Festival 2016 will take place from 11am-8pm on Sunday 11th September 2016, on York Road, Heathfield Road, Silver Street and Kings Heath Village Square.
