Wanted! Albion, Blues and Villa fans for stage drama

Stories wanted to create new play about football supporting.

Birmingham Repertory Theatre is looking for dedicated local football fans to help create a new play, Stadium, which will premiere at the theatre in Centenary Square in June 2017.

Stadium, which is being led by the internationally successful French director and writer, Mohamed El Khatib, will focus on the devoted supporters of Aston Villa, Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion. Fans are being invited to share their stories as to why they love the game and why their team is so important to them.

Director, Mohamed El Khatib says, “Birmingham is lucky to have three football teams all with a huge loyal following so The REP is the perfect place for us to create Stadium. Football is full of drama, adrenaline and emotion both on and off the pitch and we want to talk to the fans that make football what it is. We’re keen to hear why fans have grown up supporting their particular club, why some families have supported one team for generations and the relationship between fans.”

Stadium is part of Birmingham Repertory Theatre’s Furnace initiative offering local people opportunities to develop new talents, meet new friends, discover how theatre is created, work with extraordinary artists and create their own shows. The REP’s first furnace project took place on 1st July this year with the UK wide community project, “we’re here because we’re here”, marking the centenary of the Battle of the Somme. Furnace is supported by an Ambition for Excellence Award from Arts Council England.

Any Albion, Blues or Villa fans interested in sharing their stories and passion for their team should contact Rosalyn.lesurf-olner@birmingham-rep.co.uk or call 0121 245 2023. For further information visit: birmingham-rep.co.uk/furnace
