Schools programme leads to honours at awards ceremony.
Mondelēz International has been recognised for its continuing positive impact on local communities at the Business in the Community Responsible Business Awards 2016.
Mondelēz International achieved the Building Stronger Communities reaccreditation for its Health for Life in primary schools programme at the UK’s longest-running awards scheme which recognises businesses that are making a positive difference to society and to the environment.
Funded by the Mondelēz International Foundation, and delivered by the Health Education Service, in conjunction with Life Education Centres West Midlands, the Health for Life in primary schools programme is designed to support teachers, school children and their parents across South Birmingham to lead healthy lifestyles through cooking, food growing and physical activity.
Since its launch in 2011, the Health for Life in primary schools programme has reached 107 primary schools in the city involving 34,369 pupils and reaching 93,807 adults, including school staff and families.
Kelly Farrell, community affairs manager at Mondelēz International, said: “We are delighted to receive reaccreditation status for our Health for Life in primary schools programme with our community partners at the Health Education Service.”
Dr Sandra Passmore, education adviser at the Health Education Service, said: “The Health for Life in primary schools programme has significantly made a difference to schools and our community and is continuing to change the perception of healthy eating and lifestyles across the region. It is wonderful that the programme has been reaccredited as it signifies the positive impact it has had on our community.”
Raksha Pattni, Area Director West, Business in the Community, added: “Business has a key role to play in tackling the challenges we face in our schools, communities, workplaces, supply chains and in our environment and I’d like to congratulate all those who were recognised for their achievements last night. These organisations have given us a fantastic illustration of how responsible business can be delivered in a real and practical way across the West Midlands.”
