75th anniversary celebrations announced.

This week, a Rededication Service was held to mark the 75th anniversary of the Kings Heath Spiritualists’ National Union Church in Birmingham.

The growing congregation of like-minded Spiritualists attended the service, which welcomed the President of the SNU Spiritualists’ National Union, David Bruton. On the same evening, a member of the congregation, Glenys was merited with a Long Service Award

Kings Heath SNU Church is steeped in history and has been on quite a journey since its humble beginnings 75 years ago. Gaining acknowledgement from the Spiritualists’ National Union of Church’s affiliation in 1941, the church was originally based off York Road, Birmingham where it shared its premises with the Sheet Metal Company.

Quickly recognising the need to expand its premises to cater for the growing congregation, the church managed to secure funding from various donations, and in 1958 the church moved to Spiningfield Road, Birmingham where it still resides today.

The church recently underwent some structural work to improve the overall building and today welcomes over 200 members to its regular services and events.

Over the last 75 years, dedication, commitment and passion has been injected into the church to ensure that it caters for new and existing members, today, for the next 75 years and beyond.

In addition to the Rededication Service, the church will also host a 1940s themed event later this year to celebrate its milestone anniversary.

President of the Kings Heath SNU Church, Chris Shelton said, “We’ve come a long way over the last 75 years and I am so proud of what has been achieved. We are a friendly and approachable church which together offers a different viewpoint on life and life after death. Spiritualism is the thinking man’s religion, and we welcome those who wish to ask questions and take part in discussions – our door is always open.”

Minister David Bruton, President of the SNU added. “It’s clear to see that this church has gone from strength to strength with the support and dedication from members and the wider community. It was a great honour to carry out the milestone Rededication Service and I have no doubt that the church will continue to be a staple part of the local community for many years to come.”
