Keep the green Flag flying high

Clean and tidy award for Martineau Gardens.

More parks and green spaces than ever will be flying the Green Flag Award this year – more than 1,600 across the UK.

Martineau Gardens in Edgbaston, Birmingham is one of the very best in the UK – and that’s official.

The therapeutic community garden is among a record-breaking 1,686 parks and green spaces that receive a prestigious Green Flag Award – the mark of a quality park or green space.

The award, now celebrating its 20th year, recognises and rewards the best parks and green spaces across the country. A Green Flag flying overhead is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent facilities.

Caroline Hutton, director, of the gardens, said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive a Green Flag Award for seventh year running from Keep Britain Tidy. Martineau Gardens are a community-run garden that’s open for free to the public. This award is a tribute to the dedication of our volunteers who work hard to keep the gardens a beautiful and tranquil spot for Birmingham people to come and relax in.”

International Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd commented: “We are delighted to be celebrating another record-breaking year for the Green Flag Award scheme, especially as we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Awards.”
