Honours for Black Country teachers

Recognition at national awards ceremony.

Four Black Country teachers have been recognised at Academy Transformation Trust’s first ever national Teaching Awards 2016.

Teachers from Bristnall Hall Academy, Jubilee Academy Mossley and Pool Hayes Academy, which form part of Academy Transformation Trust, were recognised at The Trust’s much-anticipated Teaching Awards 2016, held last Wednesday 22nd June.

Academy Transformation Trust is a not for profit trust working with primary and secondary academies and further education providers in the Midlands, East of England and South East.

Hosted by best-selling author and educator, Professor Gervase Phinn, the ceremony brought together governors, teachers and pupils from The Trust’s 20 academies to recognise and celebrate the teachers’ achievements.

Nominated by principals, governors and pupils from both primary and secondary academies, teachers were awarded across 19 categories, including excellence in arts and creativity, international and languages, English, sport, pupil welfare, and innovation in learning and teaching.

Bristnall Hall Academy’s modern foreign languages teacher, Daniel Hipgrave, received the International/Languages award, while Karen Coldicott, teaching assistant at Jubilee Academy Mossley picked up the Teaching Assistant award.

Vince Green, Principal at Bristnall Hall Academy, said: “Daniel is an outstanding practitioner whose lessons are a pleasure to experience. He displays a clear love of his subject and this is reflected in the enthusiasm for languages that his students display.”

Two teachers from Pool Hayes Academy also took home awards, including Abbi Williams, head of technologies who won the Excellence in Arts and Creativity award and Tom Harris, head of communication, who won the Innovation in Learning and Teaching award.

Matt Allman, Principal at Pool Hayes Academy, said: “Tom’s patience, creativity, care and outstanding teaching meant he was the only member of staff we have who had the extensive skill-set to lead this team and innovative programme. Tom believes in students who others can lose faith in, and ties a paternalistic and genuine care in with a relentless pursuit of academic success.”

Professor Gervase Phinn, said: “It has been an honour to host the Teaching Awards and award those teachers who have shown such commitment to pupils’ education and learning.”

Joyce Hodgetts, Managing Director of Academy Transformation Trust, added: “At ATT, it’s important that we honour our teachers for their dedication to our pupils. Congratulations to every single teacher that won an award and to those that were shortlisted – we are very proud of their outstanding contributions to our academies.”
