Brindleyplace reveals Best of British film festival

Summer programme revealed.

Chewbacca and James Bond will be making an appearance at Brindleyplace this summer as part of the annual Film Festival, taking place between 12th and 21st July in Central Square.

Celebrating Best of British, this year’s line-up this year includes a gold heist in the form of The Italian Job, a spoonful of sugar from Mary Poppins and David Bowie’s cult classic, Labyrinth, in addition to Spectre and Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.

Nine films will be shown in total, all of which will be free for the general public to attend, with evening screenings starting at 6pm (5pm on Sunday) alongside two earlier showings over the weekend, starting at 11.45am on Saturday and 12pm on Sunday.

The line-up was chosen by the public, with thousands of people voting online for their favourite British film. Proving ever popular, the mega blockbuster, Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, the majority of which was filmed here in the UK, received the most votes overall and will consequently be shown on Saturday 16 July at 6pm.

Alex Perrins, Marketing Executive at Brindleyplace, said: “Over fifty films made the shortlist and we are thrilled with the amount of votes we had from the general public. Birmingham has spoken and, as a result, we’ve got a great line-up of British films.

“The Brindleyplace Film Festival has become one of our most popular and highly anticipated events, and this year is no exception. Don’t forget to put the dates in your diary, and get here early – whatever the weather, this line-up is sure to attract a crowd.”

In addition to the Film Festival, Brindleyplace will also be screening the live finals of Wimbledon on the outdoor screen in Central Square on Saturday 9th July and Sunday 10th July.

A limited number of seat pads and blankets will be available during the Film Festival, provided by Brindleyplace. Attendees are encouraged to bring along their own picnic blankets and arrive early to secure the best seating places.

Whilst most of the films are family-friendly, people are encouraged to check the timetable and certificated of films before heading to the Film Festival this summer, so as not to be disappointed www.brindleyplace.com/event/brindleyplace-film-festival-2016/.
