Jazz in the Jewellery Quarter

First festival of the summer coming up.

Birmingham Jazz presents its second Festival of Contemporary Jazz, with legendary themes, the JQJAZZ16. Using a number of venues in the Jewellery Quarter, some are free to enter and the rest are ticketed at very reasonable prices.

Over the three days there will be thirteen gigs, featuring a variety of bands, both national and legendary names together with the very best of local jazz talent. This is the first of two weekends for JQJAZZ16, the second coming in July. Big name stars such as Tony Kofi will be performing, plus two specially commissioned re-creations of legends: Joe Harriott & Sun Ra. From Scratch will be doing their Joe Harriott set on the opening day and Sid Peacock’s Surge Orchestra will give a big send off to the Festival on Sunday evening featuring Sun Ra’s music.
