Iconic singer to be honoured.
Direct from singing in Barcelona and her home town of Vilanova in Spain, King’s Heath Walk of Fame are presenting the UK debut of Carla to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Dusty Springfield’sperformance at the old Ritz Ballroom.
Bob Prew and Ken Whittaker, joint Walk Of Fame organisers, said “We are really delighted that Carla has agreed to fly to Birmingham to help us honour Dusty Springfield’s legendary performance. Her voice has a striking resemblance to Dusty’s and she is bound to woo the audience with her own inspirational and enigmatic style. With her intimate style and captivating voice she will lead everyone back into magical memories of Dusty”.
Carla added “I feel very excited and very fortunate to be coming to King’s Heath to sing. It will be a challenge for me to perform live for the British public for the first time but I am really looking forward to this adventure. I’m sure it will be a life-changing experience”.
Hailed as “ritain’s best ever pop singer by Rolling Stone magazine, Dusty Springfield first found success alongside her brother Tom in a trio named The Springfields. Going solo in 1963, she had her first hit with I Only Want To Be With You. Her appearance at the Ritz on 9th January 1966 came between the release of her hit singles Some Of Your Lovin and Little by Little. Later that year she had her biggest hit with You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me.
Starting at 3 pm on Sunday 8th May Carla’s tribute show to Dusty Carla sings Dusty will take place at Fletchers Bar on York Road directly opposite the ruins of the burnt-down Ritz Ballroom.
