Coming up at Artrix

Music, theatre and workshops are in store at Bromsgrove’s arts centre.

Giselle is the quintessential Romantic ballet, featuring a love affair that begins in the real world but continues in the afterlife. In Peter Wright’s production for Royal Ballet, the dual aspect of the work is perfectly achieved: the first act is dramatised in rich detail and the second with a spectral, moonlit beauty.

Royal Ballet Live presents Giselle on Wednesday 6th April at 7.15 pm. Tickets cost £15.00 (£12.00 students and under 16s)

John Godber, author of Bouncers, Up N Under and Teechers has already established himself as one of the UK’s favourite playwrights. His brand new comedy The Debt Collectors, performed by Reform Theatre, tells the tale of two out of work actors and turn their hand to debt collecting. The results are hilarious and demanding money has never been this funny. They may be in the wrong job, but they are the best in the business.

Tuesday 12th April at 8.00 pm. Tickets cost £14.00 (£12 over 60s and students)

There will be plenty of fun, sun and surf at Artrix on Saturday 16th April when the spectacular Beach Boys tribute band Surf’s Up perform.

During the two hour show, the ten -piece band will play a complete set of Beach Boys songs and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the classic album Pet Sounds.

Tickets cost £15.00 (£13.50)

Adults, youngsters and even babies can learn some new skills at Artrix by taking part in a new series of workshops beginning this Friday.

Dance Baby! is a brand new weekly workshop beginning on Friday 8th April. This fun movement class provides an opportunity for both grown-ups and children aged 0-3 to develop their rhythm and co-ordination using sensory props and playing movement games.

From 11th April onwards, adults can try ballet and belly dancing or learn some sparkling songs at the SongStars Showchoir, led by Estelle Williams, a professional teacher and former stage singer. The choir learn a wide range of pop songs, show and film tunes and give regular performances, most recently at the Webb’s Choir-a-thon in aid of local hospices at Christmas.

Future stage stars aged 6-9 can take a bow at the Out of the Box Juniors acting courses on Tuesday evenings. The venue also hosts Out of the Box Seniors on Saturday afternoons for 10-17 year old would-be actors.

For young singers aged 5-9 there’s a Little Songstars Showchoir and a Songstars Junior Showchoir which caters for ages 10-15.

The Adult Ballet Beginners Class is an excellent introduction to ballet for those who have never tried it before and the intermediate class includes some pointe work, floor exercises and barre work. The Belly Dancing class is for all levels and although it is low impact, it helps build core strength and increases flexibility.

TC Peppercorn, Artrix Engagement and Learning Officer said “These courses and workshops offer a fantastic opportunity to anyone who fancies a new challenge this Spring. We hope that people will come along and try a taster session before booking.”
