Go green for Birmingham St Mary’s

Doorstep Christmas tree recycling offered by Birmingham St Mary’s hospice.

Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice is urging people to take an eco-friendly approach to disposing their Christmas trees this year with its annual Treecycling scheme.

On Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th January, an army of volunteers will be collecting Christmas trees from homes across the city for recycling. In return for a donation of £10, trees will be collected and taken to Birmingham City Council’s household recycling centres where they will be turned into compost.

Sarah Barber-Jones, Community Fundraising Manager said: “This is a great way to avoid any hassle of taking Christmas trees to the local tip by letting us do the hard work instead. By signing up to the scheme you will be helping the Hospice provide vital care throughout the festive period for people with terminal illnesses within their local communities.”

Last year more than 700 trees were collected raising over £8,500 for the hospice, which is based in Raddlebarn Road, Selly Oak.

Nick Coley, Managing Director of Fitzgerald Civil Engineering Contractors, which is helping the hospice collect and dispose of the trees, said: “Fitzgerald Contractors are delighted to again support Birmingham St Marys Hospice in the Christmas Treecycling Campaign. The scheme continues to grow year on year providing vital funds to what is an excellent cause. We are grateful to our staff who are always willing to donate their time and effort.”

Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice will be collecting in the following postcodes: B13, B14, B15, B17, B26, B27, B28, B29, B30, B31 and B38. If you live in one of these areas and would like to book your tree collection, go to www.careatchristmas.org or contact 0121 472 1191.

This initiative is backed by Fitzgerald Civil Engineering Contractors, Birmingham City Council, Opal Contracts Mott McDonald and RAW. For more ways on how you can help Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice care at Christmas, visit www.careatchristmas.org.
