British Blind Sport to celebrate 40 years of success at Ruby Anniversary Dinner.
Next week, the Warwickshire-based charity British Blind Sport will celebrate 40 years of making a visible difference through sport in style, when it hosts its Ruby Anniversary Dinner at Mallory Court, Leamington Spa on Thursday 26th November.
On the night, guests will be joined by two local sporting legends David Moorcroft OBE and Lord Chris Holmes MBE, who will both deliver addresses to the audience throughout the evening. The night will finish with a performance from local visually impaired band, Last Train Home and it promises to be a night to remember for all those attending.
Coventry born and bred, David Moorcroft is one of Britain’s most successful long distance runners and is well known to all athletics fans as the face and voice of BBC athletics throughout the 80s and 90s. He subsequently served as the Chief Executive of UK Athletics from 1997 to 2007 and continues to make a huge contribution to sport. David is currently the Director of Sport for Join In, a national charity for local sports volunteering.
Lord Holmes, who is originally from Kidderminster, is Britain’s most successful Paralympic swimmer. He won a record six gold medals at a single games and a total of nine gold, five silver and two bronze medals across four Games. Now, Chris currently divides his time between parliamentary work, a role as Head of Disability at the Equality and Human Rights Commission and various speaking, consultancy and charitable commitments.
Commenting about British Blind Sport’s Ruby Anniversary Dinner, CEO Alaina MacGregor said: “I am delighted to celebrate this significant milestone by welcoming charity supporters, representatives from the sports industry and our guests of honour to this anniversary dinner. Both Lord Holmes and David Moorcroft have been very supportive of the work we do to encourage more visually impaired people to be active and enjoy taking part in sport.
“As the national charity committed to making a visible difference through sport; events such as this anniversary dinner will continue to raise the profile of British Blind Sport and enable us to support many more blind and partially sighted people over the next forty years.”
