A star is born

Childrens film to be premiered in style.

Sunday 11th October will be a day to remember for the children of The Star Project Barnt Green/Solihull as they join over 100 other children from across the West Midlands to walk the red carpet at the MAC Birmingham and experience A list treatment. The day will see their very own premiere for a film they have spent the last 6sixmonths working on. No expense has been spared to create this experience as they will get to arrive by limo, walk the red carpet, wtach theirefilm on the big screen and then attend their after party.

The Star Project wanted to give as many children as possible this wonderful opportunity. So in addition to the two existing theatre schools, in Barnt Green and Solihull, they took the project to Mesty Croft Academy, Wednesbury, West Acre Middle School, Droitwich and Umbrella Arts, Redditch.

Reach For The Stars has been rehearsed during individual class times with a zero budget collaborating song dance, and a selection of devised scenes and script work. The children then came together for a day’s filming at the MAC for the climax of the film and finale scenes. Having never met their fellow performers from the other schools, they worked like professionals as an entire cast, made new friends for life and most of all had fun filming with each other sharing this incredible opportunity.

Reach For The Stars is the brain child of the Star Projects’ owner Jo Edwards, who explains the reasons for creating such a huge project: “The aim was to give children the chance to feel like superstars, to give them the confidence to believe that they are capable of doing absolutely anything. To bring out their inner talents and to show the next generation that anything is achievable, and to always reach for the stars. They will feel like stars for the day and hopefully be filled with a great sense of pride and achievement. It will be a childhood memory that stays with them for the rest of their lives.”

The film tells the story of Albert Armpit, a young boy who decides he wants to go to drama class. He attends the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and finds himself deep in rehearsal for world-renowned competition the BPTW to find The Best Performance In The World. The mean and moody pop choir win every year and other groups like The Rising UP Academy and Circus School are also keen to take the title. The competition doesn’t go quite as planned and an unexpected twist shocks everyone.

The story has a strong moral and shows that it is not always about the winning but taking part and working as a team. The children of The Star Project did just this in the making of this film and not only leave this experience with a new profound knowledge of Musical Theatre but with friends that will last a lifetime.

The Star Project always have the doors open for new members wanting to come and join the fun. Not only do they learn new skills and have a great time every week, but as you can see, at The Star Project they also have access to unbelievable opportunities such as this.
