Stars of the future

New Alexandra Theatre Stage Experience presents 42nd Street.

The stars of tomorrow are set to bring the golden age of musical theatre back to the stage next week, with a brand new production of the classic musical 42nd Street.

The much-loved Broadway show will be staged at the New Alexandra Theatre from Wednesday 12th-Saturday 15th August, by the venue’s annual Stage Experience scheme. The five fully staged performances, backed by a full theatre orchestra, feature the biggest and best talent from across the West Midlands and follow ten days of intensive training.

New Alexandra Theatre Stage Experience gives local young people the unique opportunity to train and perform in a professional theatre under the guidance of a professional creative team. Running for over a decade, Stage Experience is highly respected within the theatre industry. Previous veterans include comedian Joe Lycett and stage star Liam Doyle, who later found fame in the musical Wicked.

Set during the height of the Great Depression, 42nd Street tells the timeless and inspiring tale of a young girl’s meteoric rise from chorus line to Broadway leading lady.
When small-town girl Peggy Sawyer arrives in New York City she dreams of seeing her name in lights. After securing a role in the chorus line, fate intervenes and suddenly her dream seems closer than ever.

Amongst the stars of the show are Stacey Cornes, 16, from Kings Norton who plays Annie Lowell, Katie Gladwin, 21, of Solihull, who plays Maggie Jones and Mark Walsh, 21, from Northfield, who takes on the role of Julian Marsh.

Performances run from Wednesday 12 to Saturday 15 August 2015. Tickets are available at www.atgtickets.com/birmingham or 0844 871 3011.
