New housing development handed over to tenants.
A housing development built through Birmingham city council’s housing-building arm has been handed over to tenants.
Built through the Birmingham Municipal Housing Trust by Jessup’s the £1.7 million development will provide 12 properties for affordable rent. This represents another small step by the city council towards closing Birmingham’s housing gap.
New tenant Mrs Deeqo Hassan said: “I’m overjoyed to be moving into this house and I’m so pleased that the council found me somewhere in Nechells, which means the children can stay at the same school. The flat we were in just wasn’t big enough, so it is great to have a house with a garden where the children can play. They are really looking forward to it.”
The development comprises both three- and four-bedroom houses with at least one parking space.
Councillor Tahir Ali, cabinet member for development, transport and the economy, said: “It was great to tour the site today knowing that these wonderful new homes are now ready to be occupied by Birmingham families. This is another step on the ladder towards closing the housing gap, and they will help address the shortage of larger type of accommodation throughout the city.
“The Birmingham Municipal Housing Trust is doing some amazing work, ensuring that we continue to increase and develop the range of new affordable housing options.”
The Birmingham Municipal Housing Trust Delivery Plan for 2015-2020 will deliver an estimated 2,056 homes, of which 1,456 will be new rented council homes. Through the BMHT, the city council has become the leading developer of new homes within the city, building more new homes than any other provider.
