Pupils to take on best in the country.
Pupils from Solihull School will be competing against teams from across the UK for this year’s Team Maths Challenge Trophy after finishing in first place in the West Midlands regional final.
The team of four pupils, Max Dormon, Georgina Hart, Jack Hughes and Joseph Morgan, from Years 7, 8 and 9 will compete against 80 finalists at the prestigious Royal Horticultural Halls in London on Monday June 22nd.
The foursome will take on tasks which will test their ability to solve practical problems and answer a variety of mathematical questions at speed.
Dr. Richard Atkinson, maths teacher and team leader, at Solihull School, said: “This is the second consecutive year that a Solihull School team has held the position of regional champions and we look forward to competing for the national title in June.
“All four pupils have an exceptional aptitude for mathematics and take part in a number of the co-curricular activities we offer, including our maths club and ‘puzzle of the month’ competition. The pupils work well together and I’m confident that they will be placed highly in the finals.”
Almost 1,700 schools entered this year’s competition, which is hosted by the UK Mathematics Trust. Individual mathematicians from Solihull School will also be competing later in the year in Junior, Intermediate and British Mathematical Olympiads.
