Helping hand for budding chefs

New venture at city centre coffee shop.

Independent coffee shop Six Eight Kafé has launched the Permanent Pop Up Restaurant concept at its new store in Millennium Point.

The launch allows Birmingham’s most innovative and exciting young chefs full use of commercial kitchens in the evenings, allowing normal coffee shop operations during the day. The artisan coffee shop already has become a leader of the blossoming independent scene in the Midlands, challenging the top coffee shops in the UK.

“It’s a truly fantastic collaboration between Six Eight and these amazing chefs. We want to make a bold statement and really showcase the inspiring talent that we have here in Birmingham. Taking place at our very unique location in Millennium Point, the centre of innovation and learning. This will be a formidable force to be reckoned with here in the pulsating heart of the Midlands. We are calling out to chefs that want the opportunity to ‘think outside the box’ and put it on a five star plate to come forward and join them on their Food Revolution” said shop manager Jason Goodger.

“It’s great to see in the last two years chefs becoming more emboldened in their ideas at pop ups – whereas it used to be quite simple or gimmicky they’re now more challenging in their offering – even more so than many of Birmingham’s established restaurants as there’s more freedom to try out ideas and less overheads involved so more expensive ingredients can be offered at lower cost,” added Niki Astley of Two Cats Roaming, one of the companies using Six Eight’s kitchens.
