What’s on at Artrix

A mixed bag coming up at the Artrix Arts Centre.

Born in Stourport, developing his early music In Kidderminster, training as a teacher in Worcester and then working for a time in Bromsgrove, Clifford T Ward is remembered as one of the finest singer songwriters of the 1970s.

The Robinson-Stone Brothers were fortunate enough to meet Clifford when they were young and they have always been surrounded by his music. As well as being inspired by it as songwriters, they continue to bring his songs to old and new generations of listeners, keeping the name and the music alive.

The band are fast gaining recognition for their eclectic musical style and distinctive sibling harmonies with their debut album Home gaining recognition on BBC Radio and beyond.

On Saturday, March 21st, they play The Life and Music of Clifford T Ward in the Studio at Artrix. Tickets are £10.00 each

Many years have passed since the last UK gigs from the classic line-ups of Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin. Whether you were lucky enough to have seen the originals or not, tribute band Purple Zeppelin will take you back to the magic, excitement and sheer raw energy generated by those incredible musicians.

Purple Zeppelin are performing at Artrix on Saturday 28th March. Tickets cost £18.00

There are not one but two ballet productions coming up at Artrix this month.

Anthony Dowell’s classic production of the world’s most loved ballet, Swan Lake, will be screened at the Bromsgrove venue on Tuesday 17 March at 7.15 pm, introduced by Darcey Bussell. An irresistible combination of Tchaikovsky’s famous score, tragic romance and breath-taking choreography for the entire company, Swan Lake stars Russian Principal Natalia Osipova as Odette/Odile with Canadian Principal Matthew Golding as Prince Siegfried,

Vienna Festival Ballet will be performing their 35th Anniversary Gala at Artrix on 29th March. The company will present excerpts from the best-known Tchaikovsky ballets which have featured in their repertoire during the past 35 years.

Highlights will include the moment when Odette falls in love with her prince in Swan Lake, Clara’s journey to a glittering land of snow in The Nutcracker, and the Rose Adagio from Sleeping Beauty, where Princess Aurora is introduced to four princes.

Royal Opera House Live presents Swan Lake at 7.15 pm on Tuesday 17th March. Tickets cost £15.00 (£12.00).

Vienna Festival Ballet present their 35th Anniversary Gala on Sunday 29th March at 2.00 pm and 5.00 pm. Tickets cost £19.00, £17.50 over 60s and £14.50 for under 16s.

A BBC Introducing session, an evening with Julian Lloyd Webber and a Quadrophenia Night are amongst the highlights in the new Artrix spring brochure which has just been published. The new-look brochure, which is a special celebratory issue marking Artrix’ tenth birthday this year, also encompasses details of the venue’s free birthday celebrations on 25th April.
