Maxine Peake is well-known for her appearances in TV dramas such as Silk and The Village. In a new departure she takes the leading role in Hamlet which is being screened at Artrix on Monday 23rd March. Alongside Maxine as the prince, a number of other roles, including Polonious and Rosencrantz, are also played by women. The team behind the production, Anne Beresford and Debbie Grey, were responsible for the highly successful cinema broadcast of Peter Grimes on Aldeburgh Beach.

Ellie Taylor, star of ITV2’s Fake Reaction, Channel 4’s 8 out of 10 Cats and Host of BBC 3’s Snog Marry Avoid is bringing her critically acclaimed stand-up show to town on Saturday 28th March.

The former model got her big break on Show Me The Funny back in 2011 and ver the last few summers in Edinburgh she has progressed from spots on mixed-bill nights to a half-hour solo show in 2013. Last year she debuted her first full hour which gained outstanding reviews from critics and peers alike.

Bollywood dancing, Puss in Boots and a cartoon about a well-known sheep are amongst the line-up of activities at Artrix this Easter.

E R Reilly, author of childrens’ favourites such as Harriet the Horrible and the Real Boy Wizard will be reading extracts from his novels on Sunday 29th March at 2.00 pm. This event is ideal for children aged 5+ and their parents.

Then the Easter holidays start with a bang on Tuesday 31st March with a Family Fun Day to celebrate the colourful Punjabi Festival of Vaikashi. Under 7s can come and try some energetic and exciting Bollywood Dance from 11 am to 12 noon. Or they can learn some invigorating Dhol Drumming and perform with the group from 1 pm to 2 pm.

Youngsters aged 5-10 can learn how to make a fabulous Khalsa collage card and Khanda flag in a drop-in craft session from 12 noon to 1 pm. The cost per child for the drop-in craft session is £1.00 payable on the day.

With a working windmill, a talking cat and a host of puppets, Lyngo Theatre will bring the classic tale of Puss in Boots to life on Friday 3rd April. Little ones, whiskered or otherwise, will love this classic furry tail which is adapted and performed by Patrick Lynch from Cbeebies.

Films at Artrix cinema during the Easter holidays include the Oscar-winning Big Hero 6 and Shaun the Sheep: The Movie in which the woolly wonder and his flock set out to rescue their farmer.

Little Words presents E R Reilly is at Artrix Studio on Sunday 29th March at 2.00 pm. Tickets cost £6.00 or £3.00 for accompanied children.

Lyngo Theatre presents Puss In Boots on Friday 3rd April at 2.30 pm and tickets are £8.00. Suitable for ages 4+ and all the family.

The Vaikashi Spring Festival Family Fun Day is on Tuesday 31st March. Children aged 7+ attending the dance or drumming workshops must be accompanied by a paying adult (cost £3.00).

Big Hero 6 is screening from Monday 30th March to Thursday 2nd April at 2.30 pm. Shaun The Sheep: The Movie is screening from Monday 6th to Thursday 9th April at 2.30 pm. Artrix is closed on Sunday 5th April.
