Coming up at Artrix

There’s a mixed bag this month.

James Rhodes is a man on a mission to debunk the idea of stuffiness that can surround the world of classical music. He thinks everyone should experience its magic. Dubbed “the Russell Brand of piano”, his debut album, Razor Blades Little Pills and Big Pianos reflects his personal struggle with rehab and psych wards. Bach, Beethoven and Chopin became his solace. At a concert on Friday 29th February, James will play works by Schubert, Chopin and Blumenfeld.

James Rhodes will be playing at Artrix on Friday 20th February at 7.30 pm. Tickets cost £15 (£8 students)

Local theatre group All and Sundry will be tackling a complex love triangle in their upcoming production of Look Back in Anger.

The play, which took the London stage by storm when it was first staged in 1956, spawned the term ‘angry young men’ to describe writer John Osborne and those of his generation who employed the harshness of realism in the theatre in contrast to the more escapist theatre that characterised the previous generation

All and Sundry present Look Back in Anger on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd February at 7.30 pm. Tickets cost £9

As an old soul trapped in a 30-year-old’s body, there’s something endearing about Lloyd Langford. In his new show Old Fashioned, Lloyd talks about his struggles to keep up with the modern world. His exasperation with modern technology – including e-cigarettes, CGI and plugs – spills out in a series of funny and clever anecdotes.

In the last year, Lloyd has won a Radio Academy Award for his work on Here Be Dragons, had a sell-out show at the Edinburgh Festival and achieved the joint highest score on The Unbelievable Truth (Radio 4). D.

Lloyd Langford presents Old Fashioned at Artrix on Wednesday 25th February at 8.00 pm. Tickets cost £12 (£10)

Originally from Wales and now happily ensconced in Bewdley, Deborah Rose is firmly established as one of the leading figures on the Worcestershire music scene. Her emotive style, so brilliantly showcased in her last album Song be My Soul has in the past drawn inspiration from Eva Cassidy, the shores of Scottish glens and the lyrics of famous poets.

Now Deborah is embarking on a new venture and collaborating with The O’Farrells Frolicks and Americana trio Grey Wolf in a new album called Wilde Wood. To celebrate the launch of this enticing concoction of Celtic folk and bluegrass music, Deborah will be joined by both acts at Artrix on Thursday 5th March.

Deborah Rose featuring The O’Farrells Frolicks and Grey Wolf will be playing at Artrix on Thursday 5th March at 8.00 pm. Tickets cost £12
