Rep heads to Narnia for Christmas 2015

It starts earlier every year.

As Birmingham Repertory Theatre’s festive production of The BFG had its final performance at the weekend the theatre announces its Christmas production for 2015 – a new staging of The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe.

Roxana Silbert, Artistic Director of Birmingham Repertory Theatre, said of the announcement: “The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe is a classic story that touches young and old and this vivid stage adaptation will bring a little bit of magic to the winter season.”

The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe was last presented at the Rep in 2008. The production stirred the imaginations of audiences and critics alike, with over 60,000 people seeing the dramatisation by Adrian Mitchell of CS Lewis’s book. 2015 will see a new staging of this timeless classic with Narnia brought to life on stage by the Rep’s Associate Director, Tessa Walker, who directed A Christmas Carol in 2013.

Evacuated during the Second World War, Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy find themselves in the rambling country house of Professor Kirk. One rainy afternoon Lucy’s curiosity leads her to a forgotten wardrobe. Once inside she finds herself transported to a magical world populated by talking animals, fauns, and a host of mythical creatures.

This icy land is Narnia, presided over by the evil White Witch who keeps it in an eternal state of winter. Only the mighty lion, Aslan, and the four children can overthrow the wicked White Witch and transform Narnia back to its true state. This mythical adventure story of the battle between good and evil, love, betrayal and the ultimate sacrifice, comes complete with exciting battle scenes and an abundance of daring escapades to delight the entire family.

The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe opens at Birmingham Repertory Theatre on Wednesday 25th November 2015 and runs until Saturday 16th January 2016. Tickets go on sale to members today, Monday 26th January and to the general public from 9am on Thursday 29 January. Box office: 0121 236 4455/www.birmingham-rep.co.uk
