New Art West Midlands returns for 2015

Expands into new venue.

Thirty of the region’s best emerging artists will be given a unique opportunity to showcase their work when New Art West Midlands returns in February 2015. For the first time the show will extend to Coventry, with a presentation at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum.

Four galleries – Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, the Barber Institute of Fine Arts, Wolverhampton Art Gallery and the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum in Coventry – are working in partnership to present four the exhibitions which together make up New Art West Midlands. Visitors can expect to see painting, sculpture, photography, performance, installation and video works from some of the West Midlands’ most promising artists.

A Turning Point West Midlands initiative, New Art West Midlands 2015 will exhibit the work of 30 artists, all of whom have graduated from one of the region’s undergraduate and postgraduate fine art degree courses in the past three years: Birmingham City University, Coventry University, Staffordshire University, University of Wolverhampton and University of Worcester. With five universities and four galleries, New Art West Midlands is the largest partnership of its kind in England.

Previous participants of New Art West Midlands have gone on to enjoy career success: artworks by two previous New Art West Midlands artists, Chris Clinton and Lucy Hutchinson, were bought by the Arts Council Collection, the largest national collection of modern and contemporary British Art.

This is the third edition of New Art West Midlands. In 2014 the exhibition was met with warm public appreciation, attracting some 100,000 visitors across four venues.
