Bournville employees lend a helping hand

Volunteer month sends workers back to the land.

Employees from Mondelēz International have been busy giving back to their local community as part of Global Volunteer Month – a campaign which saw over 350 UK employees spend more than 2,000 hours supporting their local communities during October.

Now in its second year, employees were busy participating in a range of projects.

During the month, volunteers spent several days with The Conservation Volunteers in support of the Mondelēz International-funded Health for Life programme. One team spent a day at a community allotment in Ley Hill and built, painted and planted raised beds and soft fruit bushes.

Lorna Cunneen who led the team, said: “The day was a great opportunity to give back to the community. We could all see the difference we had made by the end of the day which was very rewarding but also a chance for colleagues from different teams to come together, build affinity and have a bit of fun.”

In true ‘ground force’ style, employees from the Customer Service and Logistics team also spent a day revamping the garden at Roshni – a charity that provides support to women and their families who have suffered domestic violence.

Kelly Farrell, Community Affairs Manager UK&I for Mondelēz International, said: “We believe that our employees can play a key role in our local communities and this year, it has been great to see so many colleagues get involved and show their support.

“No matter how small the activity, we are grateful to everyone who took the time to give back during the giving month. This campaign has been a huge success and we look forward to continue supporting our local community partners in the future.”

This October, nearly 10,000 Mondelēz International workers stepped up to answer the Call For Well-being – the company’s growth strategy to help protect the well-being of the planet and its people – by volunteering 35,000 hours across more than 70 countries during Global Volunteer Month.
