World record broken for charity

Martineau Place and Help Harry Help Others have broken a world record, constructing the world’s longest chain of beads.

With a final distance of an impressive 9,500 metres, the new record smashed the previous record of 8,668 metres. After a construction process which took over a week from start to finish, the impressive bracelet was pieced together on the roof of Martineau Place in Birmingham on Friday, claiming the record title in Harry Moseley’s name.

Michele Jones, centre manager at Martineau Place, said: “It is a fantastic feeling to have achieved the record, especially after contending with the great British weather! Although we had to deviate from the original plan of wrapping the bracelet around the building, it’s been a fantastic team effort to pull this off and we’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with such a fantastic local charity.”

Georgie Moseley, Harry’s mother and chairman of HHHO, added: “With the recent anniversary of Harry’s passing, this is a fantastic way to celebrate everything he achieved. It was a real challenge to get everything done on time, but we’re all absolutely delighted to have done this for Harry. I can’t thank our fantastic team of volunteers enough, they have all worked tirelessly to hand-thread the beads and ensure we had over 8,668 metres ready to smash the record! Harry would be extremely chuffed to be a record breaker, so we hope we’ve done him proud.”

Supporters of the charity who donated to the official Martineau Place JustGiving page ahead of the attempt will be rewarded with a bracelet, made up with official world record beating beads Donations are still being accepted at www.justgiving.com/martineauplace.
