It’s the final countdown

Less than 1,000 places remaining for Run.

With just over two weeks until the big day, organisers of the Bupa Great Birmingham Run have announced there are less than 1,000 places remaining for the Midlands’ biggest half marathon.

Double Commonwealth gold medallist, triathlete Jodie Stimpson, will be the official starter on Sunday October 19th. Organisers are predicting a record field, expected to be in excess of the 20,000 runners who registered for the 2013 run.

Entries are set to close in the next seven days. Celebrities taking part include BBC Inside Out presenter Andy Akinwolere, Hollyoaks star Mandip Gill and Team England Commonwealth bronze medallist, table tennis player Kelly Sibley. Elite runners include England’s Steve Way, who finished 10th in this summer’s Commonwealth Games marathon; he will be taking on the defending 2013 champion, Uganda’s Thomas Ayeko.

David Hart, Communications Director for the Bupa Great Birmingham Run, said: “We’re thrilled that this will be our biggest year ever. Not only are there more runners than ever before in the senior event, we also have record entries for the Junior and Mini events and over 500 people from more than 50 local companies taking part in the Business Challenge.

“We’d urge anyone who wants to guarantee they’ll be at the start line in two weeks’ time to register this weekend; we don’t want anyone who’s been busy training to miss out at this late stage.”

The Bupa Great Birmingham Run is now the second biggest half marathon in the UK and also features mini and junior events for children aged from 3-16.
