Flawed Pride

It’s all happening on stage at the Artrix Arts Centre.

As a regular panellist on Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Mock The Week, Mark Watson is no stranger to our screens. In his forthcoming show entitled Flaws, he takes audiences on a personal journey as he reveals how he tackled his twin demons of depression of drinking. In doing so he opens up about the funny side of his problems, rather than taking us on a trip into the deep recesses of his psyche.

Luckily, with the aid of a therapist and a cleaned-up lifestyle, Watson is much better now – and has emerged a stronger stand-up from it, too. His experiences have made Flaws his most personal show to date as he discusses with some, but not too much, frankness what he went through.

This is typical of a show that takes big issues lightly, blending astute observations and personal experience in a funny and engaging manner. Emerging from the fug of depression has only reinvigorated Watson’s work.

Mark Watson presents Flaws on Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th October at 7.30 pm. Tickets cost £16

A fresh and funny interpretation of the ever popular Pride and Prejudice is coming to Artrix Theatre later this month.

Last year marked the 200th anniversary of the publication of the novel and this new stage production by the 2 Bit Classics theatre company is in celebration of that milestone.

Throughout the novel there are a lot of pairings – Elizabeth and Darcy, Jane and Mr Bingley, Elizabeth and the infamous Lady Catherine De Bourgh – so this lends itself brilliantly to an interpretation by two actors. Husband and wife team Nick Underwood and Joannah Tincey vividly recreate no less than 21 characters from the novel and do so brilliantly. It’s easy to see why this sparkling show has delighted audiences across the UK.

2 Bit Classics presents Pride and Prejudice on Friday 17th October at 8.00 pm. Tickets cost £14 (£12); Schools (£9.00)
