Mingus Music

There’s a memorable jazz night coming up this week.

Birmingham Jazz has a special event lined up for this Friday when the Mingus Big Band performs at the Bartons Arms in Aston.

This fantastic ensemble starts the short series of Big Band shows at the venue. Formed originally by Arnie Somogyi for celebrating the 50th anniversary of the recording of Charlie Mingus’ The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady, Dan Searjeant leads a band who reinterpret key tunes of the fantastic Mingus repertoire, including Better Get Hit in Your Soul.

This band, created for the Mingus Celebrations by the Birmingham Conservatoire, is a not to be missed chance to hear the timeless and memorable tunes from one the towering legends of jazz history.
