Walsall smashes company formation record

Optimistic signs for borough’s economy.

Company formation hit a record high during the three months to March in Walsall.

A new report from Duport.co.uk reveals there were 332 new companies formed in the area during the first quarter of this year – more than any other quarter on record and a 20% rise on the previous year.

The rising number of company registrations could be linked to an £8 million revamp of the town centre that is currently underway. The project will see a new 54,000 sq ft shopping centre and the arrival of new stores in the town, including Primark and Co-op outlets. The local council has confirmed that 150 jobs will be created by the development.

Managing Director of Duport.co.uk, Peter Valaitis commented: “The figures we are seeing for Walsall are very positive indeed and the regeneration work that is going ahead will hopefully help the local economy gain further momentum in years to come.”
