Amazon-ing time for students

From the Black Country to the rainforests.

Birmingham Metropolitan College students studying for a Higher National Diploma in Uniformed Public Services at Stourbridge Campus in the Black Country are having an amazing Amazon experience by travelling to Peru as part of their course.

Nine students and two members of staff organised the working trip which involves them seeing the sights of Peru, including parts of the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu, as well as undertaking a conservation programme in the Amazon Rainforest on the outskirts of the Manu National Reserve near to Cusco.

Chris Harding, Assistant Director for Uniformed Public Services at Birmingham Metropolitan College, said: “Staff and students have gone on an amazing Amazon adventure which will see them undertaking a variety of reforestation – planting trees, bushes and different endangered plant species as well as removing non-native and invasive species of bamboo. Peru was chosen because we wanted students to experience a landscape and environment that would challenge them and add to their overall experience as well as enrich their cultural knowledge.”

The trip will last for three weeks with students returning on 3rd July. Anyone interested in studying Uniformed Public Services at Birmingham Metropolitan College can progress to Higher National Diploma level.
