Award recognises centre’s bike-friendly credentials.
Solihull retail centre Touchwood is celebrating after securing a Top Cycling Location Award as part of the Smarter Network Smarter Choices scheme.
Over the past few months, Touchwood has been working closely with Centro and Bike Right to further enhance its sustainability credentials by introducing the scheme to the centre. The initiative aims to promote sustainable travel by encouraging members of the Touchwood team and its customers to get on their bikes and cycle to and from work.
To further reduce the centre’s carbon footprint and make eco-friendly travel even easier, Touchwood has introduced additional improvements to its cycling infrastructure and signage. The centre’s accessible Sheffield bike stands provide a secure place for the team to park their bikes and are just one of the reasons why Touchwood has been awarded a Top Cycling Location Award.
Andy Cole, general manager at Touchwood, comments: “We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded the Top Cycling Location Award. At Touchwood we are committed to being as sustainable as possible and are continually looking for ways in which we can further improve this. Encouraging our staff to use alternative modes of transport, such as cycling, is just one of the ways in which we are working to reduce our carbon footprint and it’s fantastic to be recognised for this work.
“We are also working in partnership with Centro to offer free cycling training to our team, to ensure that they also stay safe on the roads. All staff are eligible to attend the cycling courses and maintenance workshops completely free of charge. We would like to extend our thanks everyone who has helped us to secure this award and look forward to finding new ways to become even more sustainable.”
