London Midland staff raise over £12,000 for local hospice

Fund raising in memory of deceased colleague.

London Midland employees have raised £4095 for Birmingham’s St Mary’s Hospice, taking their overall fundraising total to over £12,000.

Driven by a commitment to honour the memory of their former colleague, Ged Mahon, who was treated at St Mary’s before he sadly passed away, the team has spent the last five years raising money for the hospice.

From belly dancing to half marathons and fundraising parties, the team from London Midland’s Tyseley depot are never scared of a challenge.

Bob Glover, London Midland’s fleet technician at its Tyseley depot in Birmingham has driven the fundraising efforts. He said, “Losing Ged was incredibly hard and the team here is committed to keeping his memory alive. Through a range of fundraising initiatives we’ve been able to do that, while at the same time raising money for St Mary’s who took such good care of him throughout his illness”.

Amy Moore St Mary’s Hospice’s Community Fundraiser said, “It costs around £7.4 million each year to run Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice, that’s £20,280 a day, £845 per hour, and £14 every minute, so the continued support we receive from the team at London Midland will really make a difference”.

Thanks to its match funding donation platform www.londonmidlandgiving.com, London Midland also donated 50p for every £1 the team raised.
