Employment and training opportunities for local people.
Labour MP Richard Burden will host a major jobs fair for South Birmingham at Bournville College on the 21st February, as part of his goal to boost aspiration and opportunity in the area.
Concerned about the high level of long term unemployment in his Northfield constituency, Richard Burden launched the Climb Project in July 2013 to bring the local community and businesses together to build a new economic future for the area.
The jobs fair, which is being organised in half term at Bournville College, aims to give local people the chance to discover and apply for new employment, training and Apprenticeship opportunities.
The fair is being organised with Birmingham City Council’s Employment Access Team and Bournville College, with partners including the Department for Work and Pensions, the National Apprenticeship Service.
Over 40 employers from across the city will be exhibiting on the day, including local firms involved in the Climb Project such as MG Motor, ADI Total Engineered Solutions and Mechatronic Solutions. Advice, guidance and workshops on employment and skills will also be available.
The Northfield MP said: “The Climb Project has brought together local business and the community in networking, advocacy and new projects for jobs and growth. It’s hugely exciting that the ‘Climb Vision’, to boost aspiration and opportunity in this part of Birmingham, has led to a major new jobs fair for our area.
“Times are tough for a lot of people here at the moment, and long term unemployment is a real problem. But South Birmingham has huge potential– a proud manufacturing heritage, the new £1 billion redevelopment project at Longbridge, and exciting community projects are all just the beginning of our economic revival. I hope that local people will be attend this exciting jobs fair in February half term to see the fantastic opportunities that are available here. This is a great step forward for South West Birmingham’s Climb to the future.”
