Brain tumour charity launches new campaign

Novel way to keep New Year’s resolutions.

The UK’s leading brain tumour research organisation, the Brain Tumour Charity, has launched a new fundraising campaign which aims to encourage the public to stay healthy long after the January diet fad ends.

Set to take place in May, the ‘Row For It’ campaign will see participants challenge themselves to row from five to 21 kilometres on both the water and static machines. Each rower will raise a minimum of £100 for the national charity which has a regional base in Solihull.

Jen Boilestad, community fundraiser at the Brain Tumour Charity, said: “A lot of people go in to the New Year with the aim of staying healthy but without a goal to work towards, their motivation soon disappears. By taking part in the ‘Row For It’ challenge, participants will have the drive to keep training and will be able to donate to a fantastic cause at the same time.

“It’s also great because unlike the majority of charity events, it offers an alternative to running and can be completed on the water, in the gym or even at home if you have the equipment. We’ve decided to hold the event in May so that people have the opportunity to train and test themselves with the further distances.”

As the largest dedicated funder of brain tumour research in the UK, the Brain Tumour Charity receives no government funding and relies 100% on voluntary donations. Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of the under 40s and the charity aims to lead the way in raising awareness and improving survival rates.

For a £10 registration fee, rowers will receive a ‘Row For It’ pack which includes a branded t-shirt, a charity wristband, a collection box, a sponsorship form and a booklet packed full of tips on how best to reach the selected distance.
