Star turn in Dorridge Park

If you want to gaze at the heavens here’s your chance.

Stargazers are being invited to look at the stars, galaxies and nebulae through powerful telescopes in the company of Knowle Astronomical Society members.

The Society will be holding its Community Outreach Astronomy Evening in Dorridge Park in Solihull on Thursday, October 10 at 7.30pm. A presentation will be held at 8pm in Dorridge Village Hall, with tea and coffee available, after which – weather permitting – astronomers will be outside with telescopes until 10.30pm to give visitors the chance of a closer look at the heavens.

Karl Leach of the Society said: “All are welcome at the event – which is always well attended. The reactions when people see their first objects in the sky in close up are brilliant.”

Knowle Astronomical Society was founded in 2001 and has around 50 members. Talks by a professional or amateur astronomer are given on the first (non-Bank Holiday) Monday of each month (except August) at St George & St Teresa’s Parish Church in Station Road, Knowle.

The Society also organises public observing sessions and visits to places of astronomical interest.
