It seems that something might finally be happening on the Birmingham City takeover front. Maybe. Andy Munro has the details.
After months of speculation over the future of the Blues we can reveal that a Birmingham Press investigator has been undercover to find out the latest situation on the ownership position and can now reveal some exciting new developments.
Carson Yeung was due in court in mid-October and has decided that he wants a hearing to defend himself. He hopes that with all the appeals and other legal loopholes, he can keep this going for a number of years. Obviously he is keen to identify new owners, hopefully gullible members of the Chinese community, who can buy into the club while he keeps his controlling interest. Chinese investors are also preferred because most of their names sound similar, thereby adding to the general confusion of Blues’ fans.
A consortium led by Gianni Paladini is still interested in bidding but only on the basis of £1 down followed by several staged payments. Paladini is supported by local celebrities such as Tom Ross (who wants to be Director of Marketing), Jeff Lynne (who wants to be Director of Entertainment), Trevor Francis (who wants to be Director of Football) and Jasper Carrott (who wants to take the piss). None of these individuals are interested in putting sixpence into a takeover.
Meanwhile, Yeung is trying to operate completely independently of his ‘friend’ Peter Pannu mainly because he is sick of the lack of action and might be confined to Hong Kong County Jail before anything happens. He’s also not keen on Pannu’s current consultancy rate which would make the likes of KPMG look like benevolent charities.
One thing they do share in common, however, is their desperation not to see the club go into administration as they would lose almost all of their investment. So they’ll continue to wring the club dry in the hope that somebody comes in before Carson finds himself doing twenty-to-life in the State penitentiary (for all our Stateside readers).
Now that Press readers have read this exclusive, there will be no need for them to waste their valuable time reading or listening to similar exclusives or breaking news in the papers or on local radio. They’ll be about as accurate as this one.
