What’s on at the Robin

The music matches the weather this week.

 

Skinny Lister

Tuesday sees a new band to the Robin in the shape of contemporary folk punks Skinny Lister. Not content with recording a series of releases in such unlikely spots as a canal boat and the homes of friends and families, they were crowned Hardest Working Band in the UK in 2011 by the Performing Rights Society. This year has seen a tour of Germany followed by shows in the USA and a string of festivals including SXSW.

On Wednesday there’s one of the most highly-respected blues rock bands to ever tread the boards. The Fabulous Thunderbirds started life as a straightforward blues outfit but evolved to become much more than that, their leader and harmonica player Kim Wilson being endorsed by no less than Muddy Waters. They’ve had top ten hits, opened for the Rolling Stones and are still putting in performances of the finest quality.

Thursday has tribute act Roxy Magic on stage.

There’s a mod double header on Friday with tributes Who’s Who and the Jam’d .

The legendary Michael Schenker plays the Robin on Saturday with his Temple of Rock. One of the greatest and most pioneering rock guitarists of all, Schenker’s band features former members of UFO and the Scorpions, with ex-Rainbow vocalist Doogie Whyte also along as they perform metal classics from the guitarist’s epic back catalogue.
