Birmingham Rep reopens 3rd September

Birmingham Repertory Theatre re-opens to the public following its two-and-a half-year closure for major refurbishment on Tuesday 3 September with the sell-out National Theatre production of Alan Bennett’s new play, People.

People: Sian Phillips Brigit Forsyth

The cast includes Siân Phillips and Brigit Forsyth who join original cast member Selina Cadell plus Paul Moriarty, Michael Thomas and Simon Bubb in Nicholas Hytner’s production.

People reunites Alan Bennett with director Nicholas Hytner, following their collaborations on the celebrated The History Boys and The Habit of Art. People is Alan Bennett’s sixth play for the National Theatre; the others are The Madness of George III, The Wind in the Willows and Single Spies. Since People opened last year, Alan Bennett’s Untold Stories: Hymn & Cocktail Sticks has also transferred from the National to the Duchess Theatre in the West End.

Joining Nicholas Hytner on the creative team is Drew Mulligan (revival director), Bob Crowley (design), James Farncombe (lighting design), Rich Walsh (sound design), Jon Driscoll (short film) and Jonathan Watkins (movement director).
