Storytelling Festival returns for Midsummer at Martineau

Tales of gory gods and gruesome greeks, rip-roaring adventure stories plus new pieces created live with the audience are all on the programme for the Martineau Gardens Storytelling Festival. 

 

 

Community Garden Martineau Gardens and the Traditional Arts Team have joined forces to create the Martineau Gardens Storytelling Festival, a family friendly day of storytelling, arts and music, plus crafts for children, which returns to the South Birmingham for Saturday 22 June, 11am – 5pm.

There will be a full programme of storytelling taking place through out the two and half acre leafy community garden – in the marquee and in locations around the gardens, from woodland glades to the sundial lawn.

Fun for children includes The Singing Bottles – Stories on the Wind storyteller Catriona Heatherington will link stories about the wind to wind inspired crafts with artist Krystyna Kozar Singing Bottles, Wind Chimes, Wind Catchers and Dandelion Blown Art. The Singing Bottles will form a permanent installation in the vegetable patch. The pottery studio will be open and there is a teddy bear’s storytelling picnic planned for the very young.

There will be live music from Moseley Village Band, local artist, Tom Jones, will be ‘ a wandering artist’, making instantaneous drawings of visitors and performers as souvenirs and children from Liquid Dance dance school will be performing the Rainforest Dance.

Delicious food will be available from ChangeKitchen CIC, winner of Birmingham’s Green Restaurant Award 2012, plus Earth Oven tales will encourage festival goers to feast on food and stories Antonello (Byzantium Restaurant, Kings Heath).

Graham Langley, of the Traditional Arts Team said: “This is a chance for people to experience terrific storytelling and more in a beautiful location – whether it’s a seated marquee performance, Earth Oven tales or a teddy bear’s picnic we’ve created a programme with something for everyone.”
