Larry McCray and Hamilton Loomis bring the blues to Birmingham

Blues based American music may well be brought into the 21st Century when Larry McCray and Hamilton Loomis appear at The Jam House in St Paul’s Square next month.

The talented musicians, renowned for bridging the gap between youth and tradition, will revive the genre for a modern audience when McCray performs at the live music venue tomorrow, Wednesday 1 May and Loomis takes to the stage on Wednesday 29 May.

Larry McCray rose to fame back in the 1990s enjoying success with songs including “Ambition” and “Soul Shine.” During his 20 year career he has released six studio albums and was honoured as the Orville Gibson 2000 Male Blues Guitarist of the Year, beating seven other nominees including Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton.

Grammy nominated Loomis’s contemporary style blues-rock-funk-groove-soul and his passion for blues saw him become the protégé of rock and roll pioneer Bo Diddley. His series of self-released records include “Just Gimme One Night,” “All Fired Up” and “Live-Highlights.”

John Bunce, General Manager at The Jam House, said: “We’re thrilled to be welcoming two such fantastic blues artists all the way from America. Both Larry and Hamilton are unique and original musicians and inspiring a new generation with modern blues music. This is the start of an exciting schedule of blues at The Jam House this year.”

Entry to both gigs is free before 9pm. Blues stars Will Johns and Kent Duchaine will be at The Jam House this July.
