Chef Richard Turner, whose Harborne based restaurant holds a Michelin Star, gave his time to open the new training café and ‘A Quiet Place’ at Queen Alexandra College (QAC).
The College trains people with disabilities in many programme areas, including hospitality and catering, with a strong focus on future employability. The café provides an ideal location in which to take the first steps towards a career in the sector.
Soon QAC will be opening a café on Bearwood High Street.
‘A Quiet Place’ is a nationally recognised model which provides evidence based, personal development programmes, supporting the achievement of unique outcomes for all ages and abilities. Focusing on future aspirations and dreams, whilst drawing on a completely holistic approach.
QAC Principal Hugh Williams welcomed Chef Turner and invited him to unveil a plaque marking the occasion. Richard was invited to judge a cake decorating competition. Chef Michael Caines has shown the world that disability is no barrier to achieving the highest of culinary standards; maybe Richard Turner will inspire a student from QAC to follow in his footsteps.
