New project with Victim Support to be launched

Students at the University of Wolverhampton are working with experts at Victim Support to launch a new advice and support service.

The new project will be run by students who have undertaken professional training with Victim Support to give free and confidential help to anyone affected by crime.

The project launched yesterday and the volunteers will be on hand to offer advice at drop-in surgeries in the Students’ Union every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Victim Support is the national charity giving free and confidential help to victims of crime, witnesses, their family, friends and anyone else affected across England and Wales

Anne-Marie Harrison, Volunteer Development Officer from Active Volunteers, said: This is a project for students run by students and offers a valuable service for our community. But it also provides excellent work experience for those who may pursue a career in counselling or working for the court service in the future. We’re delighted to be working with Victim Support and the Students’ Union to develop this initiative.”

Alan Brown, Service Delivery Manager from Victim Support, said: “We see this project as a fantastic opportunity as it improves accessibility to our services and provides students with invaluable experience for their future careers.”
