This Week at the Robin

Tonight there’s the monthly Sam Draisey sessions, featuring acoustic open mic sessions from around the Midlands. Admission’s free, turn up and have a go yourself.

Wednesday sees the arrival of a man who has been hailed as the ‘Acoustic Hendrix.’ Antonio Forcione is a multi-instrumentalist and composer whose albums have won awards and topped jazz charts around the world but his music also touches on world, flamenco and classical with a strong element of improvisation,  having worked with musicians ranging from Phil Collins to the Soweto Gospel Choir.

There’s another newcomer to the Robin on Thursday in the shape of the Producers. Originally formed in 1990, the band won acclaim for their fresh interpretation of the blues, touring the world and becoming favourites on the European festival circuit. Since getting back together in 2010 they’ve continued to win rave reviews for their live show as well as the 2011 album London Blues.

Yet another act makes their first appearance at the Robin on Friday. Uriah Heep were one of the most influential bands at the birth of heavy metal, have sold over forty million records and continue to play to large audiences around the world. There’ll be no surprises but there will be a night of solid rocking.
